Short

Colibri Soli is a Chicago circus-theater company founded by established Chicago performers, with Jeff Award–winning work among the credits. Two soloists, one company: full-length and short-form works where aerial technique carries the story — plus featured acts and workshops that travel anywhere.

Long

Colibri Soli makes theater that happens to fly. Founded in Chicago by two working soloists — established Chicago performers whose credits include Joseph Jefferson Award–winning theater and professional aerial practice — the company builds narrative-first circus-theater: evening-length works, festival sets, and commissioned pieces in which aerial and physical technique do the dramatic lifting. The name is the mission: colibri, the hummingbird, the smallest body doing the most precise flying; soli, more than one soloist. Deliberately small and built to travel, Colibri Soli also brings featured aerial acts to events and galas, and teaches devising, physical storytelling, and aerial fundamentals in schools and studios — based in Chicago, available across the Midwest.

Technical

What we need

  • Rigging: certified overhead point(s) rated to working load with safety factor, or our freestanding rig (footprint and specs on request). Rigging plan advanced with venue TD before load-in.
  • Height: 12 ft minimum for event acts; 14–16 ft+ preferred for repertoire works.
  • Floor: level, clean performance area; minimum dimensions per act sheet.
  • Sound: house PA with a line input (3.5 mm or XLR); we run cues from our own device unless a board op is provided.
  • Insurance: certificate of insurance with venue as additional insured provided on contract.
  • Load-in: typically 2–3 hours before doors for events; per advance for stage works.

Education

Workshops

  • Physical storytelling — ensemble devising tools from page to body (all levels).
  • Aerial fundamentals — conditioning, vocabulary, and safety culture (studio with rated points required).
  • Acting for movers / moving for actors — the crossover class our company is built on.
  • Residencies — multi-week school or studio residencies ending in a shared showing.
